Shogo comes off as way cooler than he is. He's reserved, stoic and carries an air of guilt around himself that speaks to some kind of dark past. This isn't particularly intentional, he's just a generally reserved person and has some deep-seeded wounds that have haunted him for most of his life. He acts more mature than he appears (obviously,) but he can be a little immature about mundane things and is extremely awkward around women. While he's fairly self-aware of those faults, he'll more likely retreat and change the subject if pressed too hard. Good luck breaking past his mysterious, guilt-ridden mask. He can get angry and lose his cool if you threaten someone close to him, but most of the time he's perfectly content to take the path of least resistance. Leave him alone or don't, he won't put up too much of a fuss unless you really get under his skin.

Characters in Caligula Effect are all represented by two flowers: one that represents their outward selves, and one that represents the inner self they hide from the rest of the world. Yes, this game was written by the guy who made Persona 1 & 2. Both of Shogo's flowers represent different kinds of love but it's especially telling that Shogo wears his Anemone flowers not just in his heart, but also on his scarf, almost like they're meant to strangle him.

Ivy - Eternal Love. Like a reed wrapped around his fingers, Shogo's connection to ivies only shows on the back of his hand when he uses his Catharsis Effect. This is the side of him he doesn't mind sharing. The ivy, being an evergreen plant, represents eternity, fidelity, and strong affectionate attachment, such as wedded love and friendship. The ivy plant is also a strong plant which can grow in the hardest environment. It also may represent dependence, which can be seen in the way it climbs trees and buildings to get sunlight. Shogo's affinity for ivies can be tied to his desire to be dependable and reliable, but also highlights his attachment to the past and the love he lost. Maybe if he'd been a little less attached, he'd have stepped in before things went too far.

Anemone - Bitter Love. Shown prominently in the scarf around his neck and the stake in his heart that appears with his Catharsis Effect, anemone flowers are Shogo's most vibrant, visible motif. The anemone flower is a symbol of forsaken or forgotten love. This flower was often a symbol of love that was no longer present in one of partner’s hearts and the death of feelings inside one of the lover's hearts. Because it closes its petals during the night and opens them up in the morning, they can be symbols of life and rebirth, though they are said to signal bad luck, be it by warding it off or drawing it closer. Once you know Shogo's past it's no surprise to find out he's basically carrying ill tidings with him everywhere he goes. Red blooms tie in strongly with forsaken or dying love themes, white anemones specifically carry connotations of death and bad luck, while purple tends to carry meanings of anticipation and protection from evil. Tie them up in an ivy bouquet and you've got Shogo in a nutshell.
